On June 3, 2023, Shen Yongji’s solo exhibition "Variable" opened at Art Granary. The 13 works on display in this solo exhibition are all experiments that explore new media and styles, another thread of Yongji's work of traditional sculpture. Using materials with a contemporary feel, Yongji constructs a three-dimensional space that appears like a painting on a shelf. In this new series of works, he blurs the boundaries between two-dimensional planes and three-dimensional spaces, as well as the boundaries between his original sculpture language, namely, figurative and abstract sculpture, and even further, blurs the boundary of the east and the west. The works exhibited by Shen Yongji in this solo exhibition are a visual presentation of his artistic view, and a spatial game in his artistic experimentation, showcasing the beauty of contemporary materials in the processes of division, bending, and fracture.
